Importing Hummer Limos
With limousines becoming more and more popular, there is a variety of different people looking for limousines. This means that the more variety of limousines there are, the more likely there is to be a limo to suit everyone. The people who had never considered hiring a traditional limousine, are the people who are getting excited about the new unique limousines like the Gargoyle Hummer and the fire engine limousine.
However, not all of these unique limousines are built, manufactured or stretched here in the UK, therefore it is a big job for the limo hire companies to get their hands on these foreign limousines because of the cost of importing luxury cars and the cost of complying the limos with the UK laws once they are here, before it can even get on the road.
Everything is of course cheaper if you ‘know someone’, so the limo hire companies usually ship their limos into the UK with the help of a car dealer. There are also shipping companies which are better than others and the limo hire companies therefore make sure they choose a reputable shipping company as while this will be more expensive, the car will arrive in good condition.
The taxes on bringing a limousine into the UK are worked out on the costs of the car, insurance and shipping costs. These are added together and an extra 10% of that amount is added as import duty, then there is another 17.5% VAT on top again.
The imported limousine must then pass an SVA which checks the limo for compliance before it can be registered. To pass this test, the limo will have to have things like the colours of the indicators and headlights changed and fit side repeaters to switch it to driving on the correct side of the road.
There is a long process before a limousine which has been imported into the UK can start getting out on the road and earning money. The limousine is kept in a warehouse until all of the taxes and duties are paid. To be safe, the limo hire companies allow around 30% more than the car cost to start with.
