Are SUV Limos Pointless
The super stretch SUV limousines are very popular in the limo hire industry and have come to be used for hen’s night parties, stag night parties and even some wedding parties are using the SUV limousines to make a once in a lifetime first impression as man and wife.
However, here in the UK there are restrictions on these SUV limousines due to some pre-existing limousine regulations. These regulations have been in place since long before limousines became a must-have for girl’s nights out and kid’s parties. Before the boom in limousine popularity, limousines were 2, 4, 6 and sometimes 8 seaters to accommodate mourners at a funeral or businessmen for an airport transfer.
With their growing popularity, limousines took on a variety of forms, often not recognisable next to the sleek and luxurious traditional limousines. Over recent years limousines have been made out of almost every vehicle imaginable, yet the laws binding the limousine industry have not been as open minded.
While there are super stretch SUVs coming from the US which can often seat up to 22 passengers, there is no place in the current passenger laws for these limousines. While the people who hire these SUV limousines simply have more room in the back because of the unoccupied seats, these unoccupied seats often lead limo hire companies into the temptation to simply carry more than the legal number of passengers.
If the stretched SUV limousines have been modified by a qualified coach builder (this should be checked by the limo hire company before they buy their limousines) then the braking, steering, suspension and body have all been modified to hold the extra weight of the stretched section of the limo, as well as the extra passengers, it is simply the laws in the UK which are limiting the party goers.
Some limo hire companies are even refusing to buy any of the stretch SUV limousines to hire out as they don’t see the point if they can not fill them to capacity. Limo hire companies and industry associations are also pushing for the SUV limousines to be registered as buses to allow for more passengers, however, so far this has not been successful.
While the SUV limousines are great fun to ride in, they would be even more fun if they could be filled with all of your friends, not just a few.
